YouTube is implementing new policies and technologies aimed at improving content quality and enhancing safety for younger users. Starting July 15, 2025, the platform will no longer monetize videos that are fully AI-generated, reused, copied, low-effort, or mass-produced and repetitive, a category defined as "inauthentic" content. Creators must use their real voices and produce original content to remain eligible for monetization. This move addresses growing concerns over the proliferation of low-quality AI-generated videos, often referred to as "AI slop." Additionally, YouTube is rolling out an AI-driven age estimation system in the United States, set to launch on August 13, 2025. This technology will analyze user behavior and signals to infer whether viewers are under 18, regardless of the age provided at account signup. The system aims to enforce stricter protections for minors by serving more age-appropriate content and restricting access based on these AI assessments. These initiatives reflect YouTube's broader strategy to prioritize original creators, enhance content authenticity, and bolster online safety for teens amid increasing regulatory and societal pressures.
