Elon Musk said on Monday that former White House strategist Steve Bannon is “going back to prison… for a long time,” escalating a months-long public clash between the billionaire and allies of President Donald Trump. Bannon finished a four-month sentence in October 2024 for defying a congressional subpoena tied to the Jan. 6 investigation and is not known to be facing additional charges. The U.S. Justice Department has not announced any new action against him, and representatives for Bannon did not immediately comment on Musk’s assertion. The remark follows Bannon’s call in early June for Trump to sign an executive order seizing Musk’s SpaceX, and comes as Musk criticizes the administration’s budget over electric-vehicle incentives. Musk’s comment underscores the widening rift between the entrepreneur and prominent figures in Trump’s political orbit.
