A pregnant woman from Barreiro, Portugal, who was 31 weeks into her pregnancy and considered high-risk, lost her baby after being referred to the Hospital de Cascais, nearly an hour away. Following a call to emergency services (112), she waited approximately two and a half hours before arriving at the hospital. The baby died prior to arrival due to hemorrhaging. The woman remains hospitalized. The National Health Service (SNS) 24 stated there were no issues with emergency calls at the time. However, the head of the medical association highlighted systemic failures in the SNS following this tragic case.
