Visma-Lease a Bike is dealing with an internal dispute after Trine Vingegaard Hansen, wife and agent of double Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard, told Denmark’s Politiken on 7 July that the Dutch squad is “pushing him too far” through frequent altitude camps and travel, jeopardising his family life and mental balance. She also questioned the team’s tactical focus, saying resources should be centred on the general-classification bid. Sporting director Grischa Niermann rejected the criticism as “exaggerated”, insisting training plans are drawn up with both rider and family and that “sacrifice is necessary” at Tour level. Vingegaard, caught between the two sides, said he had not read the article and preferred to concentrate on racing. Pressure on the 28-year-old intensified two days later when he produced a below-par ride in the Tour’s 33-kilometre time trial around Caen. World and Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel won the stage in 36 minutes 42 seconds, 16 seconds ahead of Tadej Pogacar, who claimed the yellow jersey. Vingegaard lagged 1 minute 05 seconds behind Pogacar and 1 minute 21 seconds behind Evenepoel, sliding to fourth overall, 1 minute 13 seconds off the race lead.
Dominé sur le chrono, Jonas Vingegaard est-il déjà largué pour le général ? ➡️ https://t.co/Rqy7Tlwfjz https://t.co/MVw6xvGHqF
Remco Evenepoel closed at -350 to win the time trial today ... he did, by 16 seconds! There is no gold jersey to rep the Olympic champ, which he is, so he rocked this sick helmet with the black and gold bike (to go with his world champ 🌈 skin suit) https://t.co/K0iurFJvwS https://t.co/f7DyXeWy2r
