The Kremlin said on Wednesday it cannot verify a report by CNN alleging that former U.S. President Donald Trump privately threatened to bomb Moscow if President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine. CNN, citing what it described as leaked audio from a 2024 campaign gathering, reported that Trump warned he would target the Russian capital should Russia advance on its neighbour. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters there is "a lot of fake information" circulating and that Moscow has no way of confirming whether the recording is genuine. He gave no indication that the Russian government intends to seek clarification from Washington. Russia launched its full-scale assault on Ukraine in February 2022, more than a year after the time frame in which Trump allegedly made the remarks. The United States, now under President Joe Biden, continues to support Kyiv with military and financial aid while relations with Moscow remain at their lowest point in decades.
