CNN has released audio recordings from private 2024 fundraising events in which U.S. President Donald Trump tells donors he warned Russian President Vladimir Putin that he would “bomb the sh*t out of Moscow” if Russia invaded Ukraine. Trump is heard saying Putin “believed me 10%—and that’s all you need.” Trump also claims in the tapes that he delivered an identical warning to Chinese President Xi Jinping, threatening to strike Beijing should China launch an attack on Taiwan. The remarks were made while Trump was seeking a second term and had not been made public until now. The recordings were obtained by journalists Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager and Isaac Arnsdorf for their forthcoming book “2024” and aired by CNN on Tuesday night. Trump’s campaign declined to comment on the content of the tapes. Asked about the report, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow could not confirm the authenticity of the recording and noted the prevalence of “fake news.” Beijing has not issued a response.
