The Kremlin said it remains “calm” in the face of U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest criticism of President Vladimir Putin and his demand that Russia strike a peace deal with Ukraine within 50 days. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Moscow was unfazed by Trump’s blunt language and continues to seek ways to repair what it calls a “broken” bilateral relationship. Russian officials have since rejected the 50-day deadline outright. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov described any ultimatums from Washington as “unacceptable,” while Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow could withstand additional economic pressure, including tariffs and sanctions, just as it has coped with earlier measures. The Kremlin reiterated that it will pursue its military objectives in Ukraine and sees no need to alter its course under U.S. pressure. Peskov acknowledged that both Moscow and Washington now view resolving the conflict as more complicated than initially assumed, but he added that Russia is open to further dialogue—on its own terms—should the United States wish to continue talks.
