Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said there is currently no agenda for a summit between President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and therefore “no meeting is planned.” In an interview broadcast by NBC’s “Meet the Press” and in parallel comments carried by RIA Novosti on 22 August, Lavrov stressed that Putin remains willing to meet once a detailed list of issues for discussion is fully prepared. Lavrov added that Moscow had shown “flexibility” on several points raised by U.S. President Donald Trump at last week’s Putin-Trump talks in Alaska, including Ukraine’s potential NATO membership and territorial arrangements, but said Kyiv had rejected those proposals. “Putin is ready to meet provided the agenda is ready for a summit, and this agenda is not ready at all,” he said. Zelensky has accused the Kremlin of deliberately delaying direct talks and urged Western allies to impose further sanctions if Moscow continues to avoid negotiations. Trump, who is seeking to broker a settlement, has said he expects to know within two weeks whether the two sides can move toward a peace deal.
