Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent Anchorage resident Mark Warren a brand-new Ural motorcycle, according to Russian state television and embassy officials. Counselor-envoy Andrey Ledenyov handed Warren the keys in the parking lot of a hotel where the Russian delegation was staying during Putin’s 15 August summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska. Video released by state broadcaster Rossiya-1 shows Warren, a long-time Ural enthusiast, test-riding the bike and thanking the Russian leader. Warren had earlier told reporters he struggled to source parts for his older model after U.S. sanctions curtailed shipments from Russia. Reuters said it was unable to reach Warren and noted that no Alaska-based outlets have independently confirmed the handover. Ural Motorcycles, which relocated final assembly to Kazakhstan following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, did not immediately comment. While largely symbolic, the gift allows the Kremlin to showcase a goodwill gesture on U.S. soil at a time of deep bilateral tension. It also highlights the historical resonance of Alaska, sold by the Russian Empire to the United States in 1867.
