Russian law-enforcement agencies have detained Viktor Strigunov, the former first deputy head of the National Guard, on accusations of large-scale corruption. TASS and other state-run outlets said Strigunov was taken into custody on 7 July. Investigators allege that Strigunov abused his authority and accepted bribes while overseeing the construction of a military training ground near Novosibirsk. Russian media put the suspected losses at hundreds of millions of dollars, with some reports suggesting the figure could reach into the billions. The National Guard, known as Rosgvardiya, has not commented publicly on the arrest. The case marks one of the most prominent corruption probes involving the security service since its creation in 2016.
