Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Backs Preparing for Worst and Boosting Defense as NATO Plans to Spend More 😐🛡️
RUSSIAN DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER: WE WILL PREPARE FOR THE WORST AND CONTINUE TO ENSURE OUR DEFENSIVE CAPABILITIES IN LIGHT OF NATO'S PLANS TO INCREASE DEFENSE SPENDING
Russia will "prepare for the worst" and continue reinforcing its defensive capabilities in response to NATO’s intention to raise military outlays, a deputy foreign minister said on 8 July. The official, speaking in Moscow, cautioned that the alliance’s plan to boost defense spending leaves Moscow with no choice but to strengthen its own readiness. The remarks underscore persistent tension between Russia and NATO, whose members have been discussing higher budget targets since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. While the Russian government did not specify new military commitments or budget figures, the diplomat stressed that ensuring the country’s security remains a priority amid what he described as an increasingly hostile environment.
