Ukraine’s Security Service said its drones struck Russia’s Saki military airfield in occupied Crimea overnight, destroying one combat jet and damaging four others. The agency described the attack as part of a campaign to undermine Moscow’s air power in Crimea and over the Black Sea. The raid highlights Kyiv’s growing use of unmanned systems after more than three years of full-scale war. Last month President Volodymyr Zelenskiy asked lawmakers for $6 billion to expand domestic production of interceptor drones and set a goal of assembling 1,000 units daily to counter Russia’s own drone fleet. Drone warfare is intensifying on both sides. Russian forces remain active: a separate strike on Monday killed two civilians riding a moped in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, according to regional police. Moscow has also been improving the range and jamming resistance of its Shahed-type drones, complicating Ukrainian defences.
