Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on 12 August that Kyiv’s latest military-intelligence assessment concludes President Vladimir Putin "is certainly not preparing to stop the war" and is instead redeploying forces for new large-scale offensives. Zelenskiy reported that Russian units are being shifted from the Sumy region toward Pokrovsk in Donetsk and the Zaporizhzhia front, indicating attacks could begin shortly after 15 August and expand in early September across at least three sectors of the frontline. Kyiv, he added, will not withdraw troops from the Donbas because doing so would leave Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv exposed. The warning comes days before a scheduled meeting in Alaska between U.S. President Donald Trump and Putin, a summit Zelenskiy fears Moscow will use to showcase battlefield momentum and press for concessions. He urged international partners to maintain support, saying there are no signs Russia is preparing for a cease-fire.
