Google introduced “Gemini for Home,” a voice assistant powered by its Gemini artificial-intelligence models, during the Made by Google 2025 event. The new software will replace Google Assistant on Nest smart speakers and displays, with an early-access program starting in October. Google said the service will be offered in both free and paid versions, extending the company’s push into subscription revenue. Gemini for Home retains the “Hey Google” wake phrase but promises more natural interactions, advanced reasoning and support for complex commands such as adjusting multiple smart-home settings in a single request. The assistant also incorporates Gemini Live, enabling back-and-forth conversations without repeated wake words for tasks ranging from cooking guidance to troubleshooting household appliances. Google hinted that additional Nest hardware designed to showcase the technology could arrive alongside the staged software rollout.
