Google on Wednesday broadened its audio lineup with the Pixel Buds 2a, a $129 pair of true-wireless earbuds that brings Active Noise Cancellation and on-device Gemini voice assistance to the company’s budget range for the first time. Powered by Google’s Tensor A1 chip, the earbuds promise up to 10 hours of listening—seven hours with ANC engaged—and a combined 27 hours when recharged in the case. Pre-orders opened immediately, with retail availability slated for 9 October 2025 in Iris (violet) and Hazel (black). The 2a model inherits several features from Google’s flagship buds, including an 11 mm dynamic driver, an adjustable ‘twist’ stabilizer for fit, multipoint Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity and IP54 splash resistance. The charging case now contains a user-replaceable battery accessible via pull tabs and standard screws, an uncommon repairability step in the segment. Google also detailed a feature drop for last year’s Pixel Buds Pro 2. A software update arriving in September will add Adaptive Audio, Loud Noise Protection and nod- or shake-based call controls, alongside improved background-noise suppression when using Gemini Live. The Pro 2 line gains a dark-gray ‘Moonstone’ finish that will ship 28 August for the existing $229 price.
