Swedish retailer Ikea said it will relaunch its smart-home range next year with more than 20 devices that support the industry-wide Matter standard and run on the low-power Thread mesh protocol. The first wave of lights, sensors and remote controls is scheduled to reach stores in January 2026, with additional product categories to follow later in the year. Ahead of the rollout, Ikea has released a beta firmware update that turns its existing Dirigera hub into a Matter controller and Thread border router, allowing the hub to manage both new Thread-based gear and older Zigbee products. The full software release is expected by year-end; pricing for the forthcoming devices is set to match or undercut current offerings, many of which start below $10, Ikea of Sweden executive David Granath said. Ikea is also rebooting its audio portfolio after ending a collaboration with Sonos. The company will introduce the $50 retro-style Nattbad Bluetooth speaker and a combined speaker-lamp called Blomprakt in October 2025, with additional low-cost models planned. Granath said the shift to Matter is intended to simplify set-up across Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and other ecosystems while keeping products affordable for mainstream buyers.
