Arsenal Football Club has reached a full agreement to sign Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP. The 27-year-old forward, who scored 39 goals in the previous league season, has agreed to a five-year contract with Arsenal, valid until June 2030. The transfer fee is reported to be €63.5 million (£55 million, $75 million) with an additional €10 million in potential add-ons, totaling approximately €73.5 million. Negotiations between the clubs were initially complicated, with Sporting seeking a higher guaranteed fee and add-ons, but the deal was finalized after Arsenal's sporting director Andrea Berta held face-to-face talks in Portugal. Gyökeres has made clear his desire to join Arsenal exclusively and has refused to return to Sporting's pre-season training, leading to disciplinary proceedings from Sporting. The striker will take the number 14 shirt at Arsenal, a number famously worn by the club's record goalscorer Thierry Henry. Arsenal confirmed the signing on July 26, 2025, with the player’s agents arriving in London to complete the deal. This acquisition is seen as a key addition to Arsenal’s attacking lineup ahead of the new Premier League season.
