Crystal Palace chairman and co-owner Steve Parish said the club is prepared to sell captain Marc Guéhi during the current transfer window rather than risk losing the England defender on a free transfer next year. Guéhi, 25, has entered the final 12 months of his contract and talks on an extension have stalled. Parish told reporters the club must reach “a new contract or a conclusion of some kind,” adding that allowing a player of Guéhi’s calibre to depart without a fee would create “a problem” for Palace. Liverpool are regarded as the frontrunner for the centre-back, who impressed against the Premier League champions in Sunday’s Community Shield, which Palace won on penalties. The Times reported that Guéhi hopes to move for about £45 million, although Palace could seek a higher figure given a 20 percent sell-on clause owed to Chelsea on any profit above the £18 million they paid in 2021. Palace manager Oliver Glasner has said the squad needs reinforcements even before any departures, underscoring the importance of resolving Guéhi’s future swiftly as the 1 September deadline approaches.
