Liverpool’s record summer signing Hugo Ekitike marked his competitive debut by scoring four minutes into the Community Shield against Crystal Palace on Sunday. The €95 million forward collected a pass from fellow new arrival Florian Wirtz at the edge of the box and drove a low shot into the far corner to give Jürgen Klopp’s side an early 1-0 lead. The strike is Ekitike’s first goal for the club since joining from Paris Saint-Germain and comes in the season-opening curtain-raiser at Wembley. Wirtz, who also arrived in the close season, provided the assist in his first official appearance for Liverpool.
