Olympique de Marseille has placed Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe on the transfer market, ending the pair’s involvement with the first team four days after a locker-room fight that followed the club’s 1–0 defeat at Rennes on 15 August. Both players had already been barred from training sessions this week before Tuesday’s decision that their "chapter at OM is over," according to a club statement. Club president Pablo Longoria told Agence France-Presse on Wednesday that the confrontation was “an event of extreme violence, something unheard of,” and said the move was necessary “to protect the institution and the season.” Although Longoria was not present during the altercation, he said reports from head coach Roberto De Zerbi and football director Medhi Benatia convinced management that disciplinary action was unavoidable. Marseille is seeking about €15 million for the 30-year-old Rabiot and roughly €20 million for the 22-year-old Rowe. Talks are already under way with Bologna for Rowe, while Rabiot is assessing interest elsewhere in Europe and beyond. The abrupt exit of two regular starters after the opening Ligue 1 match leaves De Zerbi scrambling to reshape his squad before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
