Activision has decoupled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022) and Modern Warfare III (2023) from the Call of Duty HQ launcher, allowing both titles to be downloaded and played as standalone games on Xbox, PlayStation and PC as of 9 a.m. PT on 29 July. Players must reinstall each title individually; legacy files that remain embedded in the HQ package will be automatically removed when Season 05 begins on 7 August, a step the publisher says will free significant storage space. Operators and weapons already shared with Call of Duty: Warzone are not affected. The restructuring is viewed as part of a broader effort to streamline the platform ahead of the planned release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 later this year. Shortly after the change went live, both Modern Warfare titles were briefly listed as free on the Xbox Store—an error that prevented play without an actual purchase and was quickly corrected.
