Square Enix said the upcoming Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will be sold as two completely separate products for Nintendo’s current Switch and its next-generation Switch 2 console, with no option to upgrade or transfer save data between the versions. In a newly published FAQ, the publisher explained that while story content is identical, each release is tuned to the respective hardware’s graphical capabilities. Players who purchase the Switch edition can still run it on a Switch 2, but it will not benefit from improved performance, and game progress cannot be moved to the newer release. The Switch 2 edition will be distributed only as a digital download or game-key card, and both versions will appear as distinct titles in a user’s library. Square Enix advised consumers to “buy your copy for whichever system you would like to play it on,” confirming that “no upgrade path is currently available or planned.” Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake launches worldwide on Oct. 30 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
