Supermassive Games said it has begun a redundancy consultation that is expected to result in as many as 36 job losses, the second round of cuts at the British developer in 18 months. The studio, known for Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology, cited the need to "adapt our team structure to better align with recent industry changes," adding that it will provide support to affected staff. Alongside the workforce reduction, the company pushed back its next title, the sci-fi horror game Directive 8020, to the first half of 2026. The game had been scheduled to launch on 2 October 2025. Supermassive said the additional time will help it deliver "the very best experience" after positive early feedback. The developer added that production of Little Nightmares III remains on track for release on 10 October 2025 and will not be affected by the cuts. Supermassive laid off roughly 90 employees in February 2024, underscoring the persistent pressure on game studios as the sector grapples with rising costs and uneven demand.
