Google on Thursday unveiled “Flight Deals,” an artificial-intelligence feature embedded in Google Flights that lets users search for airfares with natural-language prompts such as “week-long trip this winter to a city with great food, nonstop only.” The tool, available in beta and rolling out over the next week in the United States, Canada and India, sifts real-time prices from more than 300 airline and booking partners to surface itineraries it ranks by potential savings. The launch widens Google’s push to bake generative AI into consumer services even as regulators intensify scrutiny of its travel products. The European Commission is examining whether Google favors its own services in search results and is preparing enforcement actions under the Digital Markets Act. To address those concerns, the company is considering adding a price-comparison box and other changes, according to people familiar with the matter. Google said the classic Google Flights interface, introduced in 2011, will remain available and is gaining a new filter that lets travelers exclude basic-economy fares on U.S. and Canadian routes. The company did not disclose which Gemini models power Flight Deals or what privacy safeguards are in place, but it plans to refine the service based on user feedback during the beta period.
