Roblox Corporation has launched a new licensing platform designed to streamline intellectual property (IP) collaborations between IP holders and creators on its gaming platform. The initiative features founding partners Lionsgate, Netflix, Sega, and Kodansha, enabling creators to access and build experiences using popular franchises such as Stranger Things, Twilight, Saw, and Like a Dragon. The platform, called License Manager, allows creators to apply for licensed use of these IPs, facilitating revenue sharing and expanding monetization opportunities. Roblox aims to open the licensing system to all eligible IP holders in the coming months and targets having 10% of global gaming content revenue flow through its platform. This move is part of Roblox's broader strategy to diversify beyond gaming into socializing, commerce, and advertising. CEO David Baszucki highlighted the platform's potential to innovate IP licensing at scale and support new types of virtual interactions, including plans to enable dating features for verified adults.
