Webtoon Entertainment has overhauled its North American entertainment and intellectual-property operations, rebranding Wattpad Webtoon Studios as Webtoon Productions effective 10 July. The move is aimed at accelerating the number of film, television and animation adaptations drawn from the company’s vast catalogue of webcomics and novels, while expanding merchandise tied to its titles. As part of the shake-up, veteran television executive David Madden was promoted to president of Webtoon Productions after serving as head of global entertainment. He will continue to oversee development, production and sales for U.S. and international projects. Maximilian Jo, currently general counsel and corporate secretary, takes on the additional role of vice-president and head of strategy for the global IP business team. Webtoon also established a Consumer Goods division to monetise its franchises beyond screens, appointing publishing executive Tina McIntyre to lead the unit. All three executives report to chief strategy officer Yongsoo Kim, who said the restructuring underscores the company’s ambition to bring more Webtoon stories—and related products—to mainstream audiences across North America.
