A fire that broke out in the early hours of 8 July has destroyed more than 100 homes in the Dakota Informal Settlement in Isipingo, south of Durban, leaving scores of families without shelter. Firefighters and emergency crews contained and extinguished the blaze later in the morning. Local authorities have begun assessing damage and coordinating relief efforts for the displaced residents. No casualties have been reported so far, but officials said the number of people affected is still being verified.
