The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued multiple warnings for an intense cold front sweeping through the Western Cape, Northern Cape, and Eastern Cape provinces from mid-June through early July 2025. The cold front is expected to bring icy temperatures, heavy rain, damaging winds, snowfall in mountainous and northern high-lying areas, and hazardous sea conditions including level 2 and level 4 warnings for damaging waves and localised flooding. The Western Cape, including Cape Town, has experienced ongoing disruptive rainfall and flooding, with disaster management teams on high alert. The cold front is anticipated to continue impacting these regions through the weekend of July 4-6, with additional cold fronts forecast to follow. In the Free State, extremely cold temperatures are expected from the weekend into the following week. Meanwhile, the South African Weather Service also forecasts damaging winds along the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal and disruptive rain in several other provinces. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, especially in informal settlements and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Concurrently, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued multiple weather warnings for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across various regions including Jakarta and surrounding areas, with some areas under yellow and orange meteorological alerts. BMKG forecasts a delayed onset of the dry season with above-normal rainfall expected in many parts of Indonesia through October 2025. Additionally, a tropical cyclone seed (Bibit Siklon Tropis 97W) was detected near the Philippine Sea in late July, raising concerns about potential weather disturbances in the region.
