South Africa's Defence and Military Veterans Minister, Angie Motshekga, has highlighted critical challenges facing the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), which is currently operating at only 50% capacity. Motshekga warned that while the public can still feel secure, the situation must not worsen. She emphasized that the SANDF is underfunded by approximately 30 billion rand and stated that any reduction in the department's budget allocation could be dangerous. Additionally, Motshekga identified internal unrest, such as the previous disturbances in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), as the country's biggest threat flagged by military intelligence. In response to these concerns, the South African Parliament is set to urgently consider revelations related to national safety and security. The Defence Minister was scheduled to appear on the AM Report program alongside other officials, including Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson and Lesotho Communications Minister Nthati Moorosi.
