NASA said the Axiom-4 private astronaut crew will undock from the International Space Station no earlier than 14 July, marking the start of their journey back to Earth after a two-week research stay in orbit. The crew is expected to splash down in the Pacific Ocean off the California coast several hours after leaving the station, pending weather and recovery conditions. Launched aboard a SpaceX Dragon capsule from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center on 25 June and docked to the ISS a day later, Axiom-4 has completed roughly 230 orbits and travelled more than six million miles. The mission is commanded by former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson and includes Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla as pilot, along with mission specialists Slawosz Uznanski of Poland and Tibor Kapu of Hungary. During their 14-day stay, the crew conducted about 60 experiments spanning biomedical science, advanced materials, neuroscience, agriculture and space technology—the largest research programme yet for an Axiom Space private mission. The findings aim to advance human spaceflight capabilities and yield applications on Earth, including potential breakthroughs in diabetes treatment and cancer therapies.
