Residente renuncia al FIB y al Morriña Festival por su vinculación con el fondo proisraelí KKR https://t.co/nz99jQ5UjK
Puerto Rican rapper Residente has pulled out of two major summer festivals in Spain, citing what he called unacceptable financial links between the events and U.S. private-equity firm KKR. The artist, whose real name is René Pérez Joglar, said on 9 July that he will not perform at the Morriña Festival in A Coruña on 12 July or at the Festival Internacional de Benicàssim (FIB) on 19 July. In a statement, Residente said he confirmed that both festivals receive backing from Superstruct Entertainment, a live-events operator partially owned by KKR. He accused the buyout firm of investing in Israeli defence technology, surveillance companies and real-estate projects in occupied Palestinian territories, arguing that the connection made any appearance “incompatible” with his human-rights stance. The musician apologised to ticket-holders and encouraged them to seek refunds. Organisers have yet to disclose replacement acts or estimate the financial impact, though Spanish media reported that advance sales for the festivals had so far held steady. Residente’s decision follows a similar move in June by Spanish singer Judeline, adding momentum to an artist-led boycott of KKR-linked events. The withdrawals have intensified scrutiny of festival funding sources as performers weigh ethical concerns against contractual obligations.
