The Swiss Federal Department of Defence said on Thursday that the U.S. Department of Defense has notified Bern of delays in the delivery of five Patriot air-defense systems. Washington is reallocating production slots so that systems can reach Ukraine more quickly, the ministry added. Switzerland signed a contract in 2022 for the five units, with hand-over pencilled in for 2027–28. The DDPS said Switzerland is not the only customer affected; countries that are supplying their own Patriots to Kyiv, such as Germany, are expected to receive replacement units ahead of the Swiss order. The Pentagon has made bolstering Ukraine’s ground-based air defenses a priority as Kyiv faces sustained Russian missile and drone attacks. Swiss officials said they are in contact with the U.S. to clarify the revised timetable but have not yet received a new delivery schedule.
