Chile’s Nicolás Jarry continued his resurgence at Wimbledon, overpowering American Learner Tien 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 to move into the third round. The 29-year-old qualifier, ranked No. 149, has now won five straight matches at the All England Club, including a five-set comeback against world No. 8 Holger Rune in the opening round. Jarry will face the winner of João Fonseca and Jenson Brooksby for a place in the last 16. Compatriot Cristian Garin, a last-minute ‘lucky loser’ entrant, saw his second-round meeting with France’s Arthur Rinderknech halted by fading light. Garin captured the first set 6-3 but the Frenchman, fresh from eliminating world No. 3 Alexander Zverev, levelled 6-3 and edged the third-set tiebreak 7-6 (3) before play was suspended after two hours 20 minutes on Court 17. The match is scheduled to resume on Thursday morning, with Rinderknech needing one more set to advance. The interruption was one of several caused by Wimbledon’s strict 11 p.m. curfew and the lack of floodlights on outside courts. Earlier in the week Taylor Fritz’s five-set win over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard was also pushed into a second day. Tournament organisers face a growing backlog as weather delays and late finishes compress the schedule in the first week.
