Britain’s Cameron Norrie advanced to the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the first time in three years after edging Chile’s Nicolás Jarry 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-7(7), 6-7(5), 6-3 in a four-hour contest on Court No. 1 on Sunday. The world No. 61 sealed the match with a forehand winner in the decider, delighting a partisan crowd and keeping home interest alive in the men’s singles draw. Norrie’s path to the last eight has included a four-set comeback over No. 12 seed Frances Tiafoe in the second round (4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-5) and a straight-sets victory against Italy’s Mattia Bellucci in the third round (7-6(5), 6-4, 6-3). The run marks a resurgence for the 29-year-old, who has struggled with injuries since reaching the semi-finals here in 2022. With compatriots Jack Draper and Dan Evans already out, Norrie is the last British player standing at this year’s Championships. His win over Tiafoe also made him only the second Briton after Andy Murray to defeat top-20 opposition at all four Grand Slams since the rankings began in 1973. Norrie now awaits the winner of the remaining fourth-round ties for a place on Centre Court later this week. Whatever the next challenge, Sunday’s performance confirms the left-hander’s return to form and extends Britain’s stake in the tournament into the second week.
