World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz recovered from a slow start to defeat Russia’s Andrey Rublev 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in the Wimbledon round of 16 on 6 July, booking his third consecutive quarter-final at the All England Club. The 22-year-old Spaniard struck 22 aces and capitalised on a rash of unforced errors from the 14th-seeded Rublev to stretch his unbeaten run at Wimbledon to 18 matches and his overall winning streak to 22. The result also gives Alcaraz a tour-leading 46 victories this season and marks his 12th career Grand Slam quarter-final appearance. Alcaraz will face Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the last eight as he continues his bid for a third straight Wimbledon title.
