Tauson Upsets Former Champion Rybakina at Wimbledon 2025

Denmark’s Clara Tauson produced the biggest upset of the women’s draw at Wimbledon 2025 by defeating 2022 champion and 2024 semifinalist Elena Rybakina 7-6(6), 6-3 in the third round on Saturday. The 21-year-old saved two set points in the opening-set tiebreak before breaking the Kazakh twice in the second set to seal victory in 1 hour 44 minutes on No. 1 Court. The result sends Tauson into her first Wimbledon fourth round and only her second second-week appearance at a major. It is already her fourth win over a top-20 opponent this season. Rybakina, who began the fortnight ranked world No. 4, is projected to drop as low as No. 13, ending her hopes of regaining the top spot during the grass-court swing. “I had never won a match on grass before this season, so I’m super happy and proud of the way I played,” Tauson said on court.
