Belgium’s Elise Mertens advanced to the fourth round of Wimbledon with a 6-1, 7-6(4) victory over Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina on Friday. Mertens dominated the opening set and then held her nerve in a tight tiebreak to eliminate the 2023 semi-finalist in 1 hour 37 minutes. The win puts Mertens into the second week at the All England Club for the first time since 2022 and the third time in her career. She has now won eight of her last nine matches on tour and will meet either world No. 3 Aryna Sabalenka or Britain’s Emma Raducanu in the round of 16.
