Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Chief İbrahim Kalın has engaged in a series of high-level diplomatic and security meetings across the Middle East in late June and July 2025. On June 29, Kalın met with a Hamas delegation led by Muhammad Darwish, head of Hamas's Shura Council, to discuss potential steps toward a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and to facilitate immediate humanitarian aid delivery amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Following this, on July 1, Kalın traveled to Erbil, northern Iraq, where he held talks with senior Kurdish Regional Government officials, including KDP Leader Masoud Barzani, KRG President Nechirvan Barzani, and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. The discussions focused on regional security, the goal of a "terror-free Türkiye," and the safety and political role of Turkmen populations. On July 2, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with the same Hamas delegation in Ankara to further discuss ceasefire negotiations and Gaza's humanitarian situation, emphasizing Turkey's priority of ending the violence and ensuring urgent aid. On July 3, Kalın visited the southeastern Turkish province of Hakkari, including the districts of Yüksekova and Çukurca, where he met with local military and civil officials to address border security concerns along the frontiers with Iraq, Iran, and Syria. Subsequently, on July 8 and 9, Kalın held meetings in Baghdad with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, and other senior officials to coordinate efforts on the "terror-free Türkiye" initiative, focusing on border security and counterterrorism cooperation. On July 9, Kalın also briefed Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş on the progress of the "terror-free Türkiye" process, including developments related to the disarmament of the PKK and the establishment of a commission to guide next steps. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reiterated the government's commitment to achieving a terror-free Türkiye and region, affirming that these efforts honor the sacrifices of martyrs and will not undermine their memory. These coordinated diplomatic and security efforts underscore Turkey's focus on regional stability, counterterrorism, and the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
🖊 @yenisafakwriter https://t.co/MJxY1lkzQV
