Turkey and Syria have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on joint military training and advisory cooperation following talks in Ankara between their defense ministers, Yaşar Güler and his Syrian counterpart. The agreement includes provisions for Turkey to provide Syria with military training, cooperation, planning, consultancy, and technical assistance aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Syrian Army. In addition to training, Turkey will supply Syria with weapons, military equipment, logistical tools, and technical support for the use of such equipment if necessary. Turkish Defense Ministry officials emphasized that this agreement supports Syria's political unity and territorial integrity. The pact was finalized after meetings involving foreign and defense ministers as well as intelligence chiefs. Turkey, a NATO member, has been one of Syria's main foreign allies since the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad last year, and this new defense cooperation agreement deepens Ankara's support for the current administration in Damascus.
