Netflix has ordered a third season of its hit supernatural comedy “Wednesday,” extending the Addams Family franchise before the second season even airs. The streamer confirmed the decision on 23 July, saying the show’s global popularity warranted an early renewal and hinting that a spinoff centred on other Addams characters is in preliminary talks. Season 1, released in November 2022, became Netflix’s most-watched English-language series, amassing 252.1 million views within 91 days and surpassing one billion hours watched in its first three weeks. The eight-episode run topped the platform’s charts in 90 countries, underpinning the platform’s strategy to bank on established franchises. Creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and executive producer Tim Burton remain onboard, with Jenna Ortega reprising the title role. Season 2 will be released in two parts, landing on 6 August and 3 September 2025, respectively. Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said the show’s “undeniable impact connected immediately with viewers worldwide,” adding that further details on Season 3 and any potential spinoff will follow.
