Netflix said it will premiere the third season of its Japanese survival thriller “Alice in Borderland” on 25 September, releasing a first teaser that returns viewers to the show’s lethal alternate reality. The live-action drama, adapted from Haro Aso’s manga, has become one of the streamer’s flagship Asian titles after Season 2 debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s global non-English TV chart in 2022 and set a platform record for a Japanese series. Season 3 finds protagonists Arisu and Usagi—played by Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya—living a seemingly peaceful married life until Usagi is abducted by Ryuji, a scholar obsessed with the afterlife. Arisu must re-enter the Borderland to rescue her and confront the yet-unseen “Joker” stage, escalating the deadly games that underpin the series’ premise. Director Shinsuke Sato returns alongside key cast members Hayato Isomura, Ayaka Miyoshi and Katsuya Maiguma. New additions include Koji Ohkura, Risa Sudou, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Tina Tamashiro, Kotaro Daigo, Hyunri and Kento Kaku, who portrays Ryuji. The season is executive-produced by Kazutaka Sakamoto and produced by Robot with production cooperation from The Seven.
