Russian forces launched a large-scale overnight strike on the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk early on 19 August, employing about 30 Iranian-designed Shahed drones, 8–10 Kh-101 cruise missiles and three Iskander-M ballistic missiles, some fitted with cluster warheads, according to Ukrainian military and regional officials. Ukraine’s air force said the barrage was the biggest this month, claiming Russia fired a total of 270 drones and 10 missiles across the country and that 230 drones and six missiles were intercepted. In Kremenchuk and the nearby city of Lubny, the munitions hit the local oil refinery and gas facilities, damaging energy infrastructure. Poltava Governor Volodymyr Kohut reported that about 1,500 homes and 119 commercial customers in the region lost electricity, though no casualties were immediately recorded. Mayor Vitalii Maletskyi said the attack underscored President Vladimir Putin’s lack of interest in peace negotiations. Moscow has not commented on the strike.
