Former U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington is prepared to help co-ordinate security guarantees for Ukraine in partnership with European nations after talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on 18 August. Trump told reporters that Europe would serve as “the first line of defence” for Kyiv, while the United States would play a supporting, co-ordinating role. Zelensky confirmed that the two leaders, together with European counterparts, had discussed a framework under which multiple European governments would provide the formal guarantees.
