European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and French President Emmanuel Macron will accompany Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky to Washington on Monday for talks at the White House with U.S. President Donald Trump, according to statements from their offices. Other European heads of government are expected to join the delegation, underscoring an effort to present a united front behind Kyiv. The visit follows a Sunday video conference of the so-called “Coalition of Volunteers,” a group of largely European allies that coordinates military and financial support for Ukraine. Diplomats said the Washington trip aims to ensure any U.S. initiatives to end the conflict incorporate European security guarantees for Kyiv and preserve Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Trump’s meeting with Zelensky comes two days after the U.S. president held direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, a session that ended without a cease-fire agreement. European leaders have since reiterated that no settlement should be reached without Ukraine’s consent and that concessions on territory remain unacceptable.
