A spokesperson for Gabbard said the clearances were pulled on orders from President Donald Trump to remove personnel who had "weaponized or leaked" classified intelligence. The official added that the DNI acted within her authority and that the list was provided to the CIA in advance. Outside the intelligence community, lawmakers and national-security analysts have questioned whether the disclosure violates statutes barring the exposure of covert officers. Several commentators have called for Gabbard’s dismissal, while supporters argue the backlash reflects institutional resistance to her efforts to overhaul intelligence agencies.
