Rep. Jasmine Crockett Accuses Trump of Racism in Newsom Podcast

U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett, a first-term Democrat from Texas, used an appearance on California Governor Gavin Newsom’s podcast to denounce what she called the former Trump administration’s “racism toward Black-led communities.” Crockett said the administration systematically targeted jurisdictions governed by African-American officials, pointing to Washington, D.C. and other cities as examples. The congresswoman further described participants in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot as a “white-nationalist army” that attempted a coup on behalf of Donald Trump. She argued that members of the Make America Great Again movement and the former president represent “the most unpatriotic people” in the country, adding that liberals are the “real patriots.” Crockett also criticized the current federal initiative to deploy additional law-enforcement resources in the nation’s capital, calling the measure “very dystopian—like ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’—because they’re going into a Black-woman-led city.” Her remarks drew sharp rebuttals from conservative commentators but have not yet elicited an official response from Trump or his political operation.
