This office, established during the Biden administration, was described by Gabbard as a tool to label dissenting views as disinformation. Gabbard characterized her actions as a necessary step to refocus on core national security missions and to remove what she termed "Deep State actors" influencing U.S. elections. The purge includes the removal of one of the most senior Russia analysts and other officers linked to the Russia investigation. Supporters, including Rep. Byron Donalds, have called for accountability regarding the Russia-related controversies, with Donalds describing the scandal as potentially larger than Watergate. John Ratcliffe, CIA Director, has been urged to address what a senior CIA analyst described as "systemic rot" within the agency. Gabbard's reduction of her department's size marks a notable shift in the intelligence community's approach under the Trump administration.
