Newsmax has agreed to pay Dominion Voting Systems $67 million, ending a defamation lawsuit that accused the conservative cable channel of knowingly airing false claims that Dominion’s machines helped rig the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The deal, completed 15 August and revealed Monday in a regulatory filing, resolves all litigation between the companies and avoids a jury trial that had been slated for later this year. Dominion filed the suit in 2021 seeking $1.6 billion, and Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis already ruled that Newsmax’s statements were false and defamatory. Under the settlement, Newsmax paid $27 million last week and will make two further $20 million payments on 15 January 2026 and 15 January 2027. The agreement does not require an apology or retraction; Newsmax said it stands by its coverage but settled because it believed the court would not grant a fair trial. The accord adds to the financial toll from litigation over election-fraud conspiracy theories. Dominion previously secured a $787.5 million settlement from Fox News in 2023, while Newsmax paid $40 million to Smartmatic in 2024. Monday’s disclosure lifted Newsmax shares about 5 percent. With the latest deal, Dominion has collected more than $850 million from media organizations that amplified baseless allegations about the 2020 vote.
