Theodis Daniel, whose son DJ Daniel drew national attention as a young cancer survivor honored by law-enforcement groups, formally announced on 14 August that he will seek the Republican nomination for Texas’s 18th Congressional District. Daniel said he considers himself "a public servant first," adding that his campaign will focus on community service rather than traditional politics. On the same day, Springfield attorney Don Tracy, the former chair of the Illinois Republican Party, declared his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat that will be vacated by outgoing Democratic Senator Dick Durbin. Tracy joins a growing field of Republican contenders aiming to flip the seat in the 2026 election cycle.
