President Donald Trump has dropped his federal lawsuit against Iowa pollster J. Ann Selzer and the Des Moines Register, which challenged a late-campaign 2024 poll showing then-Vice President Kamala Harris leading in Iowa. The poll, released three days before the election, inaccurately indicated Harris was ahead, while Trump ultimately won Iowa by over 13 points. Despite dismissing the federal case, Trump has refiled the lawsuit in Iowa state court, alleging "brazen election interference." Selzer's attorneys have criticized the refiling as a "sham lawsuit." The federal case dismissal came after a judge declined to move the case back to state court, and the refiling occurred one day before a new Iowa anti-SLAPP law took effect. The Des Moines Register and Selzer have denied any wrongdoing, and no settlement was reached in the federal case. Additionally, Gannett, the Register's parent company, has initiated an investigation into the premature sharing of poll results with top Democrats, which may have violated internal policies.
